API protection

Protect your API from malicious agents

Keep agents that hammer your endpoints from running up infrastructure costs.

The problem

An agent can retry an expensive endpoint over and over, ignore rate limits, or keep calling after it has been denied. Every unnecessary model run, database query, or upstream request costs you money.

How it works

  1. Identify the caller and check its reputation and observed behavior before the expensive handler runs.
  2. Set a request limit on a public wrapper, and choose when a low-trust agent should be limited, sandboxed, or denied.
  3. Let agents that pass your policy reach the real API instead of treating all automated traffic alike.

What you get

Your policy stops or slows unwanted calls before they reach the costly part of your stack. You can review the resulting agent activity and adjust the threshold as you learn more.

What to connect

You configure the trust threshold and rate limit. This protects the routes you put behind the gate; it is not a replacement for network-level DDoS protection.

Start small

Start with one expensive route, measure how often agents retry or hit its limit, and put the Valiron gate in front of that route.
